Henny Penny

I am very sad this morning.  I went to the chicken coop and Henny Penny was dead.  She was everyone's favorite.  The kids could pick her up and pet her.  She will be missed!

Horseshoe Two Fire 6 June 2011

The sky was darkened with the smoke from the Horseshoe Fire.  Driving home through Benson I could not see the Dragoon Mountains.  The cashier at Wal-Mart said that when she was outside on her break (about 1630 hour) she had tiny flakes of ash landing on her.  The fire is more than thirty miles from Benson.  When I got home and I looked outside from the deck I could barely see the goats.  After diner the sky cleared and we could again see the power plant and the Playa.

Hay Barn

Mike has always wanted a hay barn and with getting goats we decided it was time to go ahead and build one.  We decided on 12 feet by 36 feet, 8 foot tall in front and 7 foot tall in back, closed in on three sides and open in front.  May 27th I cleared about 30 dead apple trees from the land and on May 28th we dug post holes and went shopping for materials.  It has been much more difficult than I had anticipated.  We have had some obstacles to overcome, mostly from lack of experience.  David has helped out alot there!  He has talked me through the construction over the phone.  Here are some pictures of the progress we have made.
