Planting the greenhouse.

Pears!

Apricots!

Trees in bloom.

Bountiful harvest!

Last year we sold apples, gave away apples, canned apples, fed two hogs all the apples they could eat, and still the ground was covered with apples!  All of the fruit trees produced really well.  What a blessing!

Naming animals

Someone recently said they thought it was funny how we name our animals.  How can you know who you are talking about if you don't have a name to call them by?  As a young teenager I read all the Trixie Belden mystery books.  Somehow I thought of them when I was naming our goats.  Trixie's best friend in the books was Honey, so Trixie and Honey.  Sometimes other people help us pick out names.  We had four grandchildren with us when we bought three new heifers.  The kids helped pick the names, Oreo, Mattie, and Cheyenne.  Last spring we had family help us name seven new baby calves.  Even Mike's Mom got to help name one.  I asked a group of nurses at work what would be a good name for our new puppy and they came up with Buster.  He is two years old now and Buster just fits him so well.  Now, when it comes to the chickens, it is pretty hard to tell them apart.  We have Henny Penny, who is a small Buff Orington that we hatched out of our own egg.  She is the only one with a name.  Actually, two families had eggs in the same incubator and she was switched by mistake because we have no other Buff Oringtons.  Anyway, we like to name our animals.  That way we can talk about them by name and not just try to get the other person to guess who we are talking about, and we can talk to them by name.

Anniversary

Mike and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary on Sunday.  In some ways it seems like we've been together forever.  I am very blessed to have Mike as my husband.  He is very thoughtful and caring.  He shows me love and respect.  I love him very much.

Update On Our Goats

Honey let me pet her today!  It was brief, but she actually let me touch her.  She ate alfalfa out of my hand.  Trixie ate what I put in front of her.

Honey was curious about the camera and came up to investigate.

Welcome!

Mike and I bought our farm in October of 2008.  It is ten acres with apple trees, pear trees, grape vines.  We also have chickens, beefalo, pigs, and we just got two goats.
